Brainwave Entrainment

Book now

Give your mind the rest it's been asking for.

In a world that rarely slows down, your brain is working harder than ever. Brainwave Entrainment is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that uses light and sound frequencies to guide your brain into a calmer, more balanced state, offering the kind of deep restoration that's increasingly hard to find in daily life.

This technique, known as Audio-Visual Entrainment (AVE), is backed by decades of research showing associations with improvements in mood, sleep, focus, stress, and overall brain health.

During your session, you’ll lie back, put on specialised headphones and light-therapy glasses, and allow your brain to naturally shift into a deeply restorative rhythm.

What happens in a session

When you arrive, you'll be welcomed in and invited to make yourself comfortable (we have the option of a flat bed or a recliner). Our team will get you set up with specialised headphones and light-therapy glasses, begin your session, and leave you to rest and recharge.

During your session, you'll hear a sequence of audio frequencies accompanied by gentle light patterns. The experience is deeply relaxing and effortless; you simply allow the soothing sounds and light to guide your brain into the intended state.

As the session progresses, many people notice:

  • A natural deepening of the breath
  • A softening of tension in the body
  • A quieting of mental chatter
  • A sense of drifting into a calm, meditative stillness

Some people notice colours, patterns, or soft visual imagery. All of these are completely normal and part of the entrainment experience.

Sessions run for approximately 30 minutes in a calm, private room.

Entering a deeply meditative state

One of the most valued aspects of Brainwave Entrainment is its ability to guide you into a deeply meditative state without requiring any prior experience or practice.

In this state, the mind naturally tends to release daily worries, mental chatter, and the accumulated tension of a busy life. Many people report a gentle sense of disconnection from their thoughts and a deep settling in the body. Most begin to enter this state within just 4–8 minutes.

Research suggests that in deeply relaxed states like these, the brain and nervous system may support the release of stabilising neurotransmitters, increased cerebral blood flow, and a shift away from the stress response, supporting emotional balance, clearer thinking, and overall brain health.

The sciency benefits of Brainwave Entrainment

For those who like to understand what's happening beneath the surface.

Modern research has uncovered a range of neurological, emotional, and cognitive benefits associated with Audio-Visual Entrainment. These include:

  • Interrupting the stress response (HPA axis regulation): AVE may help the brain break the cycle of chronic fight-or-flight activation, supporting a shift toward calm, safety, and nervous system regulation.
  • Increasing cerebral blood flow: Research suggests AVE may support increased blood flow to key areas of the brain, delivering more oxygen and supporting glucose metabolism (your brain's primary fuel). This is associated with clearer thinking, improved mood, and healthier brain function.
  • Supporting neurotransmitter balance: AVE has been associated with supporting healthier levels of serotonin, norepinephrine, endorphins, and melatonin (chemicals that influence mood, sleep, motivation, and emotional wellbeing).
  • Boosting cellular energy (ATP): AVE may support increased ATP production (the primary energy source for every cell in the body) as well as lactate metabolism, which supports mental stamina and physical recovery.
  • Raising heat shock protein 70 (HSP70): Research suggests AVE may support the production of this protective protein, which plays a role in safeguarding brain cells and supporting cellular repair.
  • Activating glial cells for brain detoxification: Glial cells act as the brain's natural clean-up system. AVE may help activate these cells to support the removal of metabolic waste, helping the brain function more clearly and efficiently.
  • Supporting anti-inflammatory signalling: AVE has been associated with increased anti-inflammatory cytokine activity, which may support neurotransmitter health and help regulate inflammation in the brain.
  • Improving cerebrospinal fluid circulation: This fluid cushions the brain and helps remove metabolic waste. Research suggests AVE may support its healthy circulation and flow.
  • Enhancing neuronal resilience: AVE may support the endurance and efficiency of brain cells, helping them function more effectively under stress or fatigue.

Brainwave Entrainment doesn't just help you relax, research suggests it may actively support a healthier, more resilient brain.

How brainwave entrainment works

Your brain is constantly producing rhythmic electrical activity known as brainwaves. These reflect your mental and emotional state at any given moment and shift depending on what you're doing, feeling, or experiencing.

Brainwave Entrainment uses pulses of light and sound at specific frequencies to gently guide your brain toward particular brainwave patterns associated with deep relaxation, mental clarity, emotional balance, and restorative rest.

This is similar to the states experienced meditators are able to access, but without the years of practice required.

Your brain's main brainwave states:

  • Beta — active thinking, alertness, problem-solving
  • Alpha — relaxed calm, gentle focus
  • Theta — deep relaxation, creativity, mental restoration
  • Delta — deep sleep, physical repair and recovery
  • Gamma — high-level thinking, learning, memory, and processing

Modern life, chronic stress, and fatigue can suppress the brainwave states your mind and body most need. Brainwave Entrainment gently guides your brain toward the right frequency for the situation.

Who brainwave entrainment may support

Brainwave Entrainment is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that may be supportive for a wide range of people. It may be particularly helpful for those experiencing:

  • Stress, anxiety, or feeling chronically overwhelmed
  • Low mood, emotional fatigue, or burnout
  • Difficulty concentrating or mental fog
  • Sleep difficulties or trouble switching off
  • Fatigue or low mental stamina
  • Tension held in the body or nervous system
  • The mental load of a busy, fast-paced life

It's also popular with students, athletes, and professionals wanting to support mental performance, focus, and emotional resilience.

If you have a diagnosed medical or psychiatric condition, we recommend speaking with your healthcare provider to discuss whether this therapy is appropriate for you.

Pair with PEMF for a complete mind-body reset

At Fleurieu Wellness, your Brainwave Entrainment session takes place while you’re lying on our PEMF (Pulsed Electromagnetic Field) mats, meaning you can receive two complementary therapies at the same time.

While Brainwave Entrainment works on your brain and nervous system, PEMF works on your cells and physical body, creating a whole-body reset in a single session.

Combined, these therapies may support:

  • A calmer mind and more relaxed body
  • Nervous system regulation
  • Cellular detoxification and repair
  • Mental clarity and emotional balance
  • Deeper, more restorative healing

Please note: there is an additional cost to include PEMF in your Brainwave Entrainment session.

Also pairs beautifully with

  • PEMF Therapy for a complete mind-body reset
  • Infrared Sauna for deeper detox and circulation support
  • Hot & Cold Plunge Pools for nervous system balance
  • Neuro Emotional Release for emotional balance and deeper stress release

Brainwave Entrainment is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that is safe for most people. However, there are a few circumstances where extra care or medical guidance is recommended.

Brainwave Entrainment is NOT suitable in the following cases:

  • Epilepsy or seizure disorders – As this therapy involves audio frequencies that stimulate brainwave activity, caution is advised for those with a history of seizures. We recommend consulting your doctor before beginning.
  • Severe sound sensitivity – If you experience discomfort or adverse reactions to sound stimulation, Brainwave Entrainment may need to be modified or avoided.
  • Severe neurological conditions – For those with significant brain injuries or neurological disorders, we recommend discussing suitability with your healthcare provider.
  • Pacemakers or implanted electronic devices – The light and sound frequencies can interfere with medical devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators, or insulin pumps.
  • Young children or those with cognitive impairments – In some cases, close supervision or a different therapeutic approach may be more appropriate.
  • Pregnancy (in select cases) – While Brainwave Entrainment is generally safe, we recommend checking with your doctor if you're pregnant and wish to proceed with caution.

If you have any medical conditions or concerns, we strongly recommend speaking with your doctor or healthcare provider before beginning Brainwave Entrainment Therapy. Our team is also here to answer your questions and help you explore safe, supportive alternatives within our holistic wellness space.

Most people find the experience deeply relaxing. You’ll sit or recline in a peaceful setting, listening to specially designed audio frequencies and watching the light patterns. There’s no need to concentrate. Just allow the sounds and lights to guide your brain into a calm, balanced state. Clients often report feeling lighter, clearer, and more centred after a session.

Benefits you may notice include:

  • Profound relaxation
  • Reduced anxious thoughts
  • Better sleep that night
  • Mental clarity and focus
  • A brighter, calmer mood
  • Less overwhelm or mental “chatter”
  • A greater sense of peace and grounding
  • Improved emotional balance

Some clients also experience better concentration, reduced pain, improved circulation, and enhanced performance (mental or physical).

The number of sessions varies from person to person and depends on what you’re looking to work on. Some people feel noticeably calmer and clearer after their very first session, while others benefit from a series of sessions to create deeper, lasting change in their nervous system and brainwave patterns.

If you naturally have a busy mind, struggle to switch off, or experience ADHD/ADD, it may take a few sessions before your brain settles into the rhythm of entrainment. This is completely normal. Think of it like teaching the brain a new skill. With consistency, most people find they “fall into the groove” and begin experiencing profound relaxation, better focus, and a more regulated state.

We’re here to guide you in choosing the frequency of sessions that best supports your goals.

We’re so excited for you to experience the many benefits of our Brainwave Entrainment therapy. To make the most of your session, here are a few tips to prepare:

  • Choose comfortable, loose-fitting clothing: You’ll remain fully clothed during the session, so wear something that allows you to relax.
  • Avoid jewellery or items that may cause distraction – If possible, keep it simple to allow you to fully focus on the experience.
  • Be well-rested – Brainwave Entrainment can be even more effective when you’re feeling rested and calm.
  • Avoid caffeine or heavy meals – It’s best to be in a relaxed, clear state of mind. If you’re feeling jittery or too full, it may be harder for you to fully benefit from the session.
