Brainwave Entrainment is one of our most restorative detox therapies. It’s a gentle, non-invasive experience that uses light and sound frequencies to guide your brain into a calmer, more balanced state. This technique is known as Audio-Visual Entrainment (AVE), and it’s backed by decades of research showing improvements in mood, sleep, focus, stress levels, and overall brain function.


During your session, you’ll lie back, put on specialised headphones and light-therapy glasses, and allow your brain to naturally shift into a deeply restorative rhythm. 


How brainwave entrainment works


Brainwave Entrainment or AVE uses pulses of light and sound at specific frequencies to gently guide your brain into specific brainwave patterns. How is this helpful? Altering your brainwave frequencies can help boost your mood, improve sleep patterns, sharpen your mind, and increase your level of relaxation. This is similar to what experienced meditators access after years of practice.

What happens in a session


When you arrive for your session, you’ll be welcomed in and encouraged to make yourself comfortable laying down. We have the option of a flat bed or more of a recliner. Our team will get you set up with the headphones and light therapy glasses and we’ll begin your session before we leave you to rest and recharge.


During your session, you’ll hear a sequence of audio frequencies accompanied by light patterns. The sessions are deeply relaxing and easy to follow. You simply sit back and allow the soothing sounds and lights to guide your brain into the intended state. As the frequencies begin, you’ll naturally drift into a calm, meditative state. Within minutes:

  • Your breath deepens
  • Your nervous system softens out of fight-or-flight
  • Your mind becomes still and quiet
  • Your whole body begins to relax
  • Your brain releases “feel good” neurotransmitters
  • Blood flow increases to support healthy brain function


Some people report seeing colours, patterns, or soft imagery. All are completely normal and part of the entrainment experience.


Each Brainwave Entrainment session runs for approximately 45 minutes. You’ll be in a calm, private room for the duration of your session. 


Enter a deeply meditative state


One of the most powerful aspects of Brainwave Entrainment is its ability to guide you into a deep, meditative state. In this dissociated state, your mind naturally lets go of daily worries, mental “chatter,” and the stress of a busy life. You may feel a gentle disconnection from your thoughts and even your body. This is similar to what experienced meditators achieve after years of practice. Most clients begin to enter this state within just 4–8 minutes of a session.


While in this deeply relaxed state, your brain and body release regenerative repair chemicals and stabilising neurotransmitters (including serotonin, endorphins, and dopamine) that support emotional balance, clear thinking, and overall brain health. This meditative state not only gives your nervous system a much-needed break but also encourages increased cerebral blood flow and impaired neuronal firing which supports your brain’s natural ability to restore normal function. Brainwave Entrainment is a gentle, non-invasive therapy that is safe for most people. However, there are a few circumstances where extra care or medical guidance is recommended.


Brainwave Entrainment is NOT suitable in the following cases:

  • Epilepsy or seizure disorders – As this therapy involves audio frequencies that stimulate brainwave activity, caution is advised for those with a history of seizures. We recommend consulting your doctor before beginning.
  • Severe sound sensitivity – If you experience discomfort or adverse reactions to sound stimulation, Brainwave Entrainment may need to be modified or avoided.
  • Severe neurological conditions – For those with significant brain injuries or neurological disorders, we recommend discussing suitability with your healthcare provider.
  • Pacemakers or implanted electronic devices – The light and sound frequencies can interfere with medical devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators, or insulin pumps.
  • Young children or those with cognitive impairments – In some cases, close supervision or a different therapeutic approach may be more appropriate.
  • Pregnancy (in select cases) – While Brainwave Entrainment is generally safe, we recommend checking with your doctor if you're pregnant and wish to proceed with caution.

If you naturally have a busy mind, struggle to switch off, or experience ADHD/ADD, it may take a few sessions before your brain settles into the rhythm of entrainment. This is completely normal. Think of it like teaching the brain a new skill. With consistency, most people find they “fall into the groove” and begin experiencing profound relaxation, better focus, and a more regulated state.

  • Be well-rested – Brainwave Entrainment can be even more effective when you’re feeling rested and calm.
  • Avoid caffeine or heavy meals – It’s best to be in a relaxed, clear state of mind. If you’re feeling jittery or too full, it may be harder for you to fully benefit from the session.
